Tamari

If only I could sing
Then it would be your name
But all my lips can bring
Is something like a dirge
For they cannot but ring
As an echo to my heart

I had this special girl
Her dear name was Tamari
She had a thing for me
Her desire was to marry
But none of it I'd have
My affections were for Mary

I pushed her to the wall
But she just kept returning
As a bonny baby girl
To the mother who just scolded
Never left me at all
Even when I crushed her heart

You see this girl Tamari
Didn't make my heart to flip
Didn't look like a fairy
Neither was her figure slender
Wasn't moved by my gari
Like these honeys I be chasing

But then again Tamari
Was so harmless like a child
She had my back always
Never changing like the tide
Whenever she graced my home
Left a scene worthy of pride

So now I seek Tamari
But alas she's more than gone
The girl I didn't marry
Lady I should have cherished
My name she cannot carry
She's another's happy wife.

The Dream

In love again to fall
I dreaded the thought
Like a drunkard after a fall
Regards the tempting pot

Will she catch me when I fall?
I pondered 'pon my bed
For I knew not at all
The fate that God had laid

So treading on my toes
Like a thief in the night
I  drew ever so close
Heart beating with might

My throat waxed dry
My words they grew few
Like a village girl shy
In a lone chapel pew

But catch me she did
Like mother with child
And  nobody she'd bid
To have me beside

Like lioness with cub
She'd kill to guard me
Fierce stare like a stab
To the girls beside me

So in me I questioned
Why the fears so grim
But then awake I did
For it was just a dream

My Father's House

I rejoice as a prince born into wealth
Because my father is the King of kings
I speak as one of the wise of the earth
Because my father is the sage of sages

I am a lover of all the created species
For my father is the maker of them all
All the beasts and birds and fishes
Are his fine works fashioned to enthral

Shadowy lands under serene moonlit skies
Or ocean waves a thousand sunrays glancing
Clouds racing past or stealthy as spies
The beautiful fruit of his imagining

The forest birds sound a matchless melody
While the mountain falls ceaseless roar
The lion of the savanna bows to nobody
And the eagles ever higher peerless soar

The stars and distant galaxies pay homage
But so do the ant kingdoms under earth
Though voiceless to my ear, they divulge,
The praises of glory at his zenith

For want of time I mention but a billionth
Of all the colour and flavour and pleasures,
And the resounding fame and spanless worth
Of all the splendour of my father's house.

Beautiful Burglar!

You smile that smile of yours
Throw your head back and laugh
Like you've never known any woes
Or seen how that life can be rough

Puppet-like,my smile reflects yours
Forgive my long stare and fixed gaze
I'm sure I could be at it for hours
Your beauty's got me in such a daze!

I thought my heart was now burglar proof
After all the times it's been vandalised
How on earth did you get under my roof?
Or steal away a heart so well galvanized

For this crime so unexpected,unsuspected
You must pay for the rest of your life
This can only be fair if we get married
You own my heart and should be my wife!

Babe,I swear I nearly gave up on love
The heart can take only so many knocks
Had I known who God kept for me,my Eve,
I would have waited for endless epochs!

Come now,let us make up for lost time
Take my hand and let's enjoy this journey
You're mine,I'm yours,the match is prime
I see us painting the future red Honey!
